About Dr. Ming Wang, M.D., Ph.D

Dr. Ming Wang, M.D., Ph.D., was born in P.R. China and came to the U.S. in 1982 with only $50 in his pocket, and a Chinese-English dictionary. At the time, he knew no one in this vast new country but brought with him hope and determination to succeed.

Prior to coming the U.S., he learned to play an ancient Chinese instrument called an er-hu at the age of 14. He did this as a means to avoid the devastating fate of being deported by the government to remote provinces to work as a poor peasant for life. The Erhu is a two-stringed instrument of thousands of years’ antiquity, through which the young Ming expressed his longing for a better life and a chance for an education that was denied him.

Twenty-two years later, Dr. Wang is an internationally-known eye doctor. Graduating from Harvard and MIT magna cum laude, he founded the world-class Wang Vision Institute in Nashville, Tennessee. Patients travel from around the world to undergo new ocular reconstructive surgeries that Dr. Wang has helped develop and performs complimentary in association with the Wang Foundation for Sight Restoration.
